Decoding your Favorite Travel Destinations: Expectation vs. Reality


Dream destination as perceived through brochures and other sites on internet are not always as dazzling as shown. Some of these beautiful destinations allure visitors in numbers. All these places are rushed with visitors more than its capacity to hold them smoothly, which affects the overall spectacle of the place and it doesn’t look quite like the way you had perceived:

1. Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

The beach on the island of Koh Phi Phi in Maya Bay Thailand became famous when it was featured in the film ‘The Beach’. The beautiful beach has ever since drawn a plethora of tourists gushing from all over the world. A scenic beauty with white sands, surrounded by cliffs as high as 100 meters on three sides and an opening to sea, make it the most visited beach. However, with 5000 tourists visiting this beach on a single day, this rush makes it a bit different to your perception.

   

2. The Great Wall of China

The wall was built to avert the incursions as it runs from east to west measuring a distance of 21196 kilometers. It runs like a serpentine over the mountains, deserts, plateaus and plains. Though majestic in all its manifestations, it is thronged by ten million visitors every year. The rush on wall may disturb your thoughts as you may not see what you wanted to.

3. Pyramids of Giza

Near to the city of Cairo, the great pyramids were built on Plateau of Giza by the people who belonged to one of the most powerful civilizations. One of the ancient seven wonders, the pyramids are magnificent manmade structures. But recent reviews of visitors are not good particularly cleanliness and behavior of some locals who wish money at every step of your visit.

4. Taj Mahal

One of seven modern wonders of the world, Taj Mahal is spectacular in all its grandeur. And so it is visited by seven million visitors every year. Yes, you need to plan visit in early hours to soak in the monument in lesser crowd. As the day progress the visitor rush will be more and more.

5. Famous Beach of Rio de Janeiro

Copacabana beach is one of the most famous beaches of Rio de Janeiro, and is thronged with visitors throughout the year. So, If you love people, a lot of people around in little swimwear, it is for you. Be tolerant with the little mess up that a crowed can create.

6. Santorini, Greece

Once a sight of large volcanic eruptions; Santorini is now a caldera overlooking the Aegean Sea.  Featuring picturesque villages on this caldera, the settlements look like a steps placement from bottom to top. The place is famous for its luxurious resorts, breath taking view of Aegean Sea. Being a hot destination for honeymooners, the place gets swarms of visitors at times.

7. Mount Everest

Highest peak of the world is approached from two sides. While Nepal’s side gives it the name of Everest, Tibet side is called the south face, as many climbers take to scale Mount Everest. Thought to be secluded and isolated the peak sometimes gets lot of climbers together. The litter has piled up even at this difficult place.
